He was wholesome, innocent, pure, at a time when the American public wanted … not that. At one point, he remembers his publicist suggesting Donny purposely get arrested crossing the U. He actually considered it for a moment — he was desperate — before eventually firing that publicist. He realized he needed to change his image, though.

So he started wearing cut-up jeans and a black leather jacket, like George Michael. In , he debated quitting entertainment entirely and starting a security company in Utah.
